ERA Calculator

Calculate earned run average for baseball pitchers.

How It Works

  1. Enter stats. Add earned runs (ER) and innings pitched (IP) in baseball format (.1 = 1 out, .2 = 2 outs).
  2. Get ERA. ERA = (ER × 9) ÷ IP — lower is better for pitchers.
  3. Convert innings. Use the tools block to convert outs to IP or check game innings.
  4. Plan your target. Enter a target ERA and remaining IP to see allowable earned runs.
  5. What-if table. Preview how giving up 0–10 more ER over remaining innings changes your final ERA.

Lower ERA = fewer earned runs per 9 innings — elite MLB pitchers often sit below 3.00.
